Tree Plantation and Cleaning Drive at Shikohpur Village, Gurugram
The Environmental Sustainability Project Team Gurugram, organised a Tree Plantation and Cleaning Drive at Shikohpur Village on 3rd March. This event was organised with the employees of the Macquarie Group as part of their employee engagement programme. 22 employees from Macquarie Group, 2 employees from HPPI and 10 students from Government Secondary School, Shikohpur along with their teacher, participated in the event. Besides planting the saplings, the participants cleaned the area to be planted. The government school teachers, on behalf of the students, took the ownership of watering the plants and taking care of them regularly. The students agreed to spreading awareness about the importance of planting trees and protecting the environment amongst their peers. To develop a caring relationship of oneness with nature, a unique approach of talking positively to the plants while planting them was employed. Many studies have found that talking to plants improves their growth as they can sense the vibrations. The students also named the plants and pledged to take good care of them.
To inculcate sustainable habits, cloth bags were presented to the participants. These cloth bags were stitched by the women entrepreneurs from another HPPI Project called Udyogini.
