Project Sashakt Empowering Women Artisans
Humana People to People India’s Project Sashakt organised introductory meetings with women-led handloom cooperatives at Chirang, Dhubri and Kamrup districts of Assam. 25 cooperatives from three districts participated, representing a unique story of resilience, craftsmanship, and community leadership preserving Assam’s rich weaving heritage. The sessions aimed to build consensus and foster collaboration, creating a shared vision for empowering women through handloom-based income-generating activities.
The meeting focused on supporting women entrepreneurs to scale their cooperative-based businesses, providing training in cooperative governance, new handloom design, digital skills, and financial literacy. By connecting these women with digital platforms and market-driven designs, the project aims to strengthen their cooperatives and improve their socio-economic conditions. The event marked an important first step in building a stronger support network for these women leaders, laying the foundation for sustainable livelihoods.
Humana People to People India (HPPI) is implementing Project Sashakt in partnership with the European Union (EU) to empower women artisans to scale their cooperative-based businesses.
