Building Climate-Resilient Farming Communities in Prayagraj
Through Holistic Rural Development Project, Prayagraj, rural communities are adopting sustainable agriculture practices that improve livelihoods while protecting the environment.
During the financial year 2025–26, through intensive trainings, 1,114 farmers gained practical knowledge on soil health management, natural pest control, organic inputs, and climate-resilient farming methods—reducing dependence on harmful chemical fertilisers and pesticides while strengthening confidence in sustainable agriculture.
To promote learning through practice, 407 demonstration plots for paddy, vegetables, and wheat were established across 258.92 acres of farmland, encouraging farmers to adopt chemical-free and climate-smart cultivation methods.
The project also established 152 Nutri Gardens, bringing 11.42 acres under chemical-free cultivation and improving household nutrition security. In addition, 200 vermicompost units were established producing organic manure that will support soil health and crop productivity on nearly 270 acres of farmland.
Further strengthening sustainable agriculture, 11 solar-based irrigation systems installed across 10 villages are helping 209 small and marginal farmers access reliable, climate-friendly irrigation while reducing dependence on diesel-powered pumps.
Together, these initiatives are strengthening food security, improving farmer incomes, promoting clean energy, and creating a pathway toward a greener and more sustainable rural future.
HPPI is implementing the Holistic Rural Development Project, Prayagraj in partnership with HDFC Bank Parivartan, aiming to transform 15 villages into model villages.
