TB Nutrition Support Project inaugurated in Mumbai
The Tuberculosis Nutrition Support Project (TNSP) in Bhiwandi, Thane is providing 70 people with TB (PwTB) free, specially designed nutritional kits. TNSP understands the crucial role of proper nutrition in combating tuberculosis. By providing these nutrition kits, the project aims to equip PwTB with the necessary strength and resilience to fight the disease. This holistic approach to TB management goes beyond medical treatment, addressing a vital aspect of overall well-being.
Project’s inauguration held on 19 January 2024 in collaboration with a government campaign Nikshay Mitra, further amplified its reach and impact. The event was attended by Kapil Patil (Minister of State for Panchayati Raj), Mahesh Chougule (Member of Assembly), Ajay Vaidh (Municipal Commissioner), Sumit Patil and Santosh Shetty (Councilors of Padamanagar Bhiwandi), Dr Bushra Shaikh (City TB Officer & MOH Bhiwandi) and members of the TB unit from Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation.
Identifying the 70 PwTB beneficiaries entailed a meticulous selection process. Each individual’s Body Mass Index (BMI) was a primary consideration, along with crucial factors such as family structure, social and economic status, residence, and treatment completion date. To ensure inclusivity and geographical representation, 35 PwTB were selected through the Humana People to People India team and 35 through the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP) team, with beneficiaries hailing from at least 3 TB units across diverse locations.
Collaborations play a crucial role in amplifying work and HPPI is being supported by KK Chempro by providing the specialised nutritional kits to 70 PwTB for six months.
