Kadam programme selected as one of the most impactful Spotlight innovations in education by HundrED
One of the HPPI’s flagship educational programmes, the Kadam Step-up has been selected among the world’s 14 most innovative formative assessment solutions by the HundrED. Kadam is a bridge education programme that helps the children at the primary school level to bridge their learning gaps and brings them to par with their age-appropriate, grade-appropriate learning levels
HundrED.Org is a Finland-based, not-for-profit organisation, which seeks and shares inspiring innovations in K-12 education with a mission to give them recognition and visibility. HundrED works with innovators, educators, and funders on all continents and envisions providing quality education to all children where every child has access to the best possible educational innovations: practices, programmes, or organisations that are scalable and impactful in K-12 education.
Every year, HundrED discovers, researches, and shares inspiring innovations in K12 education. It conducts two types of research every year, one is the ‘The Spotlight Innovation’, and the other is ‘The Global Collection’. Each category is open to all innovations in education and people/ organisations across the globe can participate under each category. For 2021, in partnership with the Jacobs Foundation, the HundrED released the report, “Formative Assessment: Improving Learning for Every Child” on 24th June 2022 in which HPPI’s Kadam – A Step Up programme is selected as one of the Spotlight Innovations amongst the 14 innovations, chosen from 129 submissions from 42 countries.
HundrED has a goal to help improve education and foster a movement through encouraging impactful and scalable innovations to spread, mindful of context, across the world. For each Spotlight, HundrED selects the brightest education innovations. Each innovation undergoes a thorough study by research teams and an expert Advisory Board. The two groups of researchers assess each entry on two main criteria:
• Impact – Evaluated as a valuable improvement within the innovation’s context. All innovations must have at least one year of being implemented with their intended users.
• Scalability – Either the innovation is actively expanding to other contexts or has a high degree of transferability for others to adopt its practice/technology.
The Kadam programme has been selected by both groups of researchers in the Spotlight category as one of the 14 effective school practices on formative assessment. The selected innovations showcase the use of EdTech in various contexts, focus on classroom practices and show the importance of teacher training. They shed light on empirical evidence on how individualised learning and adaptive teaching can be implemented in schools and under what conditions they are effective and scalable.
The Kadam programme has been successfully implemented in different States in India. Until the end of June 2022, the Kadam programme has reached 266,969 children – hereof 151,395 out-of-school children and 115,574 primary school children.
